PMA! It’s a saying in our house that means, Positive Mental Attitude. Everyone needs PMA, and PMA needs to be nurtured. Having a positive mental attitude helps in all situations. I’m not talking about Pollyanna or Pie in the Sky attitudes. Nope, I’m talking about seeing the good in every situation and person. Easier said than done, I know.
Research and reports from popular media abound with the many benefits that come from having a positive attitude toward life. You can google “positive attitude” and be overwhelmed with the results. Yet, what is a Positive Mental Attitude?
PMA for me is:
- Noticing the good in even the worst situation.
- Saying hello to strangers.
- Stopping the negative thoughts in their tracks.
- Changing the language I use from deficit to abundance.
- Reframing the situation: I control my reality.
These actions might sound naïve and too simple. I encourage you to try these simple actions and see if your outlook doesn’t improve. Even saying “PMA” out loud helps me step back and see where my attitude is lacking. I have found that my attitude influences my behaviors and words. And since I want my behaviors and my words to be positive, I’m keeping my PMA in check.
